Communities must be made aware of mosquitos

prevention and control

Prevention and control
No vaccine is available against this virus infection. Prevention is entirely dependent upon taking steps to avoid mosquito bites and elimination of mosquito breeding sites.
To avoid mosquito bites
Wear full sleeve clothes and long dresses to cover the limbs.Use mosquito coils, repellents and electric vapour mats during the daytimeand also use mosquito nets – to protect babies, old people and others, who may rest during the day. The effectiveness of such nets can be improved by treating them with permethrin (pyrethroid insecticide). Curtains (cloth or bamboo) can also be treated with insecticide and hung at windows or doorways, to repel or kill mosquitoes. Mosquitoes become infected when they bite people who are sick with chikungunya. Mosquito nets and mosquito nets and mosquito coils will effectively prevent mosquitoes from biting sick people.
To prevent mosquito breeding
The Aedes mosquitoes that transmit chikungunya breed in a wide variety of manmade containers which are common around human dwellings. These containers collect rainwater, and include discarded tires, flowerpots, old oil drums, animal water troughs, water storage vessels, and plastic food containers. These breeding sites can be eliminated by Draining water from coolers, tanks, barrels, drums and buckets, etc.;Emptying coolers when not in use removing from the house all objects for examples plant saucers which have water collected in them cooperating with the public health authorities in anti-mosquito measures. Role of public health authorities National programme for prevention and control of vector borne diseases should be strengthened and efficiently implemented with multisectoral coordination Legislations for elimination of domestic/peridomestic mosquitogenic sites should be effectively enforced Communities must be made aware of the disease and their active cooperation in prevention and control measures elicited Minimizing Transmission of Infection
1. Risk Communication to the household members
Educate the patient and other members in the household about the risk of transmission to others and the ways to minimize the risk by minimizing vector population and minimizing the contact with vector.
2. Minimizing vector population
Intensify effort to reduce larval habitats in and around the houses: remove stagnant water from all junk items lying around and in the household and in the peri-domestic areasStagnating water in flower pots or similar containers should be changed daily or at least twice weeklyIntroduce larvivorous fish in aquaria, garden pools, etcWeeds and tall grasses should be cut short to minimize shady spaces where the adult insects hide and rest during hot daylight hoursDrain all water stagnating after rainsFogging and street sanitation with proper waste management(fogging does not appear to be effective, yet it is routinely implemented in epidemic situation
3. Minimize the vector-patient contact (Aedes mosquitoes bite during the daytime, mostly in the morning and late afternoon)
At household level:Have the patient and infants in the house rest under bed-nets, preferably permethrin-impregnated netsInsecticide sprays: bed rooms, closets and crevices, bathrooms, kitchens, nooks and corners; alternatively, coils , mats, vapourizers, etcHave the patient as well as other members of the household wear full sleeves to cover extremities, preferably bright coloured clothesWire-mesh/nets on doors and windows
4. Reporting to the nearest public health authority
Occurrence of the case in the community needs to be communicated immediately to the nearest public health official for identification of clusters by person, place and time and for expansion of the control measures in the community and district levels.

prevention

i agree with azrin that for this time, we not found the best medicine or vaccin to cure chikungunya. as a people, we should care and allert how to over come it..we cannot accept easy what happen to people, that means we try to avoid it.
so, what we can do is just simple thing.for example, remove all stagnant water around our house.by doing that we can avoid mosquito aedes aegypti breeds. As we know, the main cause of chikungunya is biting from chikungunya, so automaticly to prevent it we have to obliterate mosquito. i want add samething that, the side of health should doing something, for example they should use fogging to obliterate mosquito around house or everywhere..

Prevention of Chikungunya

Specific treatment is not available and there is no vaccine for the prevention of Chikungunya fever. In Malaysia, fogging is the main way to prevent and control the outbreaks. In addition, we also can protect our self by treated and removed all stagnant water. Stagnant water is where the infecting mosquito Aedes aegypti breeds. So, we have to beware now! Don't go out from your house especially in the dawn and dusk periods because this is the feeding period of the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

Just the Facts...

How is Chikungunya diagnosed?
Chikungunya is diagnosed by blood tests. Since the clinical appearance of both Chikungunya and dengue are similar, laboratory confirmation is important, especially in areas where dengue is present.

Who is at risk for Chikungunya?
Anyone who is bitten by an infected mosquito can get Chikungunya, including babies.

What is the treatment for Chikungunya?
There is no specific treatment for Chikungunya. Supportive therapy that help ease symptoms, such as administration of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and getting plenty of rest, may be beneficial. Infected persons should be isolated from mosquitoes in as much as possible in order to avoid transmission of infection to other people.

What are the Causes of Chikungunya?

Chikungunya virus is indigenous to tropical Africa and Asia, where it is transmitted to humans by the bite of infected mosquitoes, usually of the genus Aedes. Chikungunya virus belongs to alpha-vus under Toga virdae family. It is an "Arbovirus"(Ar-arthropod,bo-borne). CHIK fever epidemics are sustained by human-mosquito-human transmission. The word "chikungunya" is thought to derive from description in local dialect of the contorted posture of patients afflicted with the severe joint pain associated with this disease. The main virus reservoirs are monkeys, but other species can also be affected, including humans.

Emmm... What is chikungunya fever?

Assalamualaikum.......................

emmm...
today i like to give a definition what is Chikungunya for you all !!!! Chikungunya fever is a viral illness that is spread by the bites of infected mosquitoes. Chikungunya fever typically lasts from five to seven days and frequently causes severe and often incapacitating joint pain which sometimes persists for much longer periods. It is rarely life-threatening. There is no specific treatment for the disease but analgesics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication may be used to reduce the pain and swelling. Aspirin should be avoided.
There is no vaccine against this virus, so preventive measures depend entirely on avoiding mosquito bites which occur mainly during the daytime, and eliminating mosquito breeding sites.

My experience about Chikungunya..

Hi...

I like to share with all of you about my experience when i got a Chikungunya fever. Today, i like to give a definition what is Chikungunya.Chikungunya (in the Makonde language "that which bends up") virus (CHIKV) is an insect-borne virus, of the genus, Alphavirus, that is transmitted to humans by virus-carrying Aedes mosquitoes. There have been recent outbreaks of CHIKV associated with severe morbidity CHIKV causes an ilness with symptoms similar to dengue fever. CHIKV manifests itself with an acute febrile phase of the ilness lasts only two to five days, followed by a prolonged arthralgic disease that affects the joints of the extremities. The pain associated with CHIKV infection of the joints persists for weeks or months.

discuss question no 1_what is Chikugunya?

hello.......as humans we care about health and we allert about that..so, for a new cases ar new deasease we want know detail about that to make easy avoid from any deasease..ok, here i want give and shared about this deasease called CHIKUNGUNYA. before i precced detail about that, we should know what is chikugunya right? easy to say here, we should know step by step meaning that..first we should know about what is it, what are the symptoms_ the treament, what are the causes, statistic of chikugunya and finally we should know hao to over comes it?..

Actually chikugunya is a viral diseases that is very similar in symptoms and etiology to the move popular diseases "dengue fever" the virus responsible for chikugunya is alphavirus, which belong to be togovividae family.. this virus is transmitted through mosquito bites.only a specific type of mosquitos is a vector.meaning that, not all have a virus..so mosquitos have virus and it carrier for chikugunya..so we do not afraid to all mosquito but we should be careful about that.

This is the aedes aegypti mosquito which is active only the daytime.the aedes aegypti mosquito is the same mosquito that s responsible for the transmission of the deague fever among humans. the condition of chikugunya is generally and it can be remeded within 5 -7 days with proper treatment. the basic characteristic of the disease is a fever along with an arthritic-type of pain in the joints..

introduction about chikugunya

CHIKUGUNYA? WHAT IS IT? OR IT JUST A WEIRD CALLED?

Actually, before this i dont know more about chikugunya is about.. and after i do researh and read more about this, i already know what is about..let me tell u about chikugunya..for easy to pronounced is (chi-koon-goo-nya) for all information, the word chikugunya is etymologically rooted in the MAKONDE languange og TANZANIA, where it means that which bends up.this name is because of the painful symptoms which cause the patients joints to curve in a upwards polution.the origins of chikugunya can be traced to 1952 in central Afrika from where it has become spreed in asia currently. The desease manifests itself as a epdemic and if uncontrolled it might turn into a pandemic..
based on this statment, i can increse my knowledge about this and other partner can give your comment or give more info about that..

firstly our group will discuss about chikungunya cases expeacially in Malaysia..as we know, many cases about chikungunaya increase in malaysia..from my study about this, chikungunya actually from abroad and it spreed to malaysia...

i will discuss with my partner in group to shared information about chikunya to all readers..i think not all know and allert about this and this blog create to give more information about this to help all and give info to all..

this group will discuss about this cases by topic..we find five questions to discuss in blog together and share to all..questions will group discuss is:

  1. what is chikungunya?
  2. what are the symptoms of chikugunya?
  3. what are the causes of chikugunya?
  4. how to prevent it or how to overcome chikugunya_treatment?
  5. statistic of chikugunya?
